On the sixth day of iQ, we share with you why the iQ is not just the smarter choice but also the product of smarter design!
The iQ was designed at the Toyota European Design and Development (Toyota ED2) studio in Nice, France. The design emphasizes low fuel consumption, maneuverability, environmental friendliness, and maximized interior space.

Six specific design factors contribute to the iQ's minimal overhangs, forward windscreen location, maximized cabin space and overall compactness. These include a newly-developed differential and a center take-off steering gear, rear-angled shock absorbers, a more compact heater/air conditioning unit and asymmetric dashboard, and a slimmer seat design.
All these engineering innovations, along with an electronic power-steering system and compact steering column, amount to significant decreases in front-end length. In addition, the iQ is equipped with a flat gas tank housed beneath the floor that reduces rear overhang.
Stay tuned for more interesting facts about the 2012 Scion iQ as the 12 Days of iQ continues, and let us know what you think!
