talk about overkill. but then theres also the fact that a study just pointed out that most low speed vehicles are toast in a car crash. this should make sure that you're still alive even during a crash.

This does prove safer. It also proves very expencive if you get into a minor crash that then engages all the airbags in the vehicle. The cost of replacing airbags is not cheap... especially when there are so many.

Imagine accidentally bumping into a wall or another car and setting all these off. It'll cost more to get all them replaced than it will be to fix any scratches you get from that small accident.

I just had a thought of this being like some kind of carnival ride. you get in the car and it suddenly closes in on you with baloons! The cup holder assumption is probably right though this is a scion and there is probably a fancy aftermarket 10 cupholder solution already available.

Is this unique to the US iQ or does the Toyota iQ have this also? Wondering if Scion/Toyota implemented it because they know how bad American drivers are and they figure if the iQ gets hit it better be protected because the result could be ugly.

Maybe it was also introduced after all the assumptions people have latley with the safety of very small cars. The logic for most is they dont have alot to crumble around you.

I think its for other markets as well. Not just the US. Cars this small tend to have little to no protection during a crash. 10 airbags is overkill but if it saves 1 life than thats fine.

The idea of ten air bags is excessive in the very least. It probably gives inadequate drivers a sense of invulnerability, so they can send longer text messages, or do a better job of applying makeup/shaving while they drive.

Can't be too many airbags. A person can be thrown around in all directions in an event of a roll-over. More airbags will protect from more angles. But airbag or not, if the car is hit hard from behind, the rear driver does not have much chances, that's how I see it.
