Based on a post by BretAZ, he being in the West coast market, says they told him he wouldn't get his iQ until Deceember instead of October. I wonder if that pushes all the other National release dates out an additional two months as well.

If you got to the official Scion iQ site for the Western Region it now says coming soon, it used to say coming October 2011.

Because of the imposed CVT automatic transmission I already decided to buy a Yaris instead, and have my dealer working one that. It is supposed to be available at the end of October.

The current shipment of iQ's are being brought in at the ports and being adjusted to meet the new government requirements causing the release date to be delayed.

I would think that the other market release dates will stay the same since Scion will have more time to adjust those vehicles. The new requirements were sprung on Scion at the last moment for the west coast release.

What kinds of adjustments/requirements might these be?

All I've been told so far is that there are changes in the calibrations of the iQ. I'm making the assumption (remember what happens when you assume) that there are changes in the emissions standards.

The car has been selling in Europe with no problems so I can only assume that the US has made the requirements a little more strick.

I am so bummed, I am at the top of the list here at my dealership in town to get one of these and trade in my 09 xB. I have been waiting all year to get better MPG and get into a smaller car. I called my dealership today and now they said indefinitely which has really gotten me bummed out. I had the red color slotted for me and am half tempted to check out the fiat dealership but really would not be fully happy with one of those. ugh.

Just hang in there a little while longer...

From the Toyota Sales conference call on October 3, 2011: Bob Carter, Group Vice President and General Manager of the Toyota Division "The new Yaris goes on sale later this month and we’ll also begin wholesaling the all-new Prius V before the month is out.

That gives us four all-new or significantly updated models in a span of 30 days -- to be followed by the Scion iQ before the end of the year." (bold and underline not in original publication)

Hey surfcitylocal from the sound of your posts it appears you have something to do with Toyota corporate. If so, please tell them to offer the 6 speed manual transmission in the iQ, or at least announce it as as a statement of intent. From reading this forum I have a feeling quite a few people have been turned off by the automatic CVT only.
It would be in Toyota's best financial interest to make the iQ 6 speed transmission available here, before they lose sales to the other competing small efficient cars from different companies that do offer manual transmissions.
See my post about these cars at:

I'm not with Toyota or Scion Corp, found that info by doing a Google search. I do have friends at Corp, they are working like crazy to get the iQ to the dealers as fast as they can.

The Scion web site has updated the iQ Western Region release date, it now shows December 1, 2011 rather than Coming Soon.

about time an official Scion iQ release date has been put out. I wonder when the rest of the region's are getting them?

Would be awesome if the Scion is release everywhere before this Christmas.
There is a roll over map on the Scion site. It will show you the scheduled release dates for anywhere in the U.S.

They are probably trying to figure out how the car can run on more fuel.:D
