Once I get the title and get it registed and plates I get a 10 day inspection permit. It's like $50 to rent a dolly. I see all kinds of videos where people pick up a car and drive it 3 states away with no filed paperwork. I'm not sure how they get away with it so much.
You need to tow it to the inspection? No temporary permit? (Here as long as it is insured it appears they can give a 1 day temporary permit to move/take to a mechanic/repair/smog/inspection). Geez NY is strict!

I was at the state facility today. It took just an hour. Most of the time was the car waiting in line. Drive the car in, open all the doors, trunk, hood, lower driver window all the way. They asked for the receipts from things I fixed or replaced. They didn't ask about wire replacement, which is important on a flood car and I don't have receipts for. They just care if any major parts were stolen. All my major parts are original. They closed the bay door for a while. At most, 10 minutes later, they opened the bay door and said "pull out, your title will come in 2 to 3 weeks." I was the only one with a tow dolly. Everyone else just drive in....

It will likely be a salvage title. In a few places on the NY DMV website, it says cars upto 8 years old will get a salvage title. Well mine is older than that so what does it get? I even called them and asked and they did not know. We will see.

Is that gonna be a salvage title, or clean title?

I have a rusty break in the exhaust where it meets the front of the muffler. I'll fix it for now so I can pass the annual inspection. It's just 1.5 inch in diameter. I bought a kit of stainless pipes and bends in a 2 inch size. I just don't see any kit in less than 2 inch. I've worked out how to make the stock style flanges. I'm including a basic straight through muffler. I'm adding a anti-drone side pipe/chamber that I can change as needed. It'll be fun.
