I've taken my iQ down to "E" twice, now. The first time, the fuel gauge was on the last bar and was blinking and it took 6.5 gallons to fill it.

This past tank, I drove it 310 miles and was sweating it worrying about running out of gas. But it took 7.5 gallons to fill it so it really had a gallon left.

But WHY doesn't the low fuel indicator light come one? (I have two other Toyotas and the warning lights work just fine.)

I usually don't drive my cars down to below 1/4th of a tank but since this is my commute car I'd like to know my limits and WHY the fuel warning light isn't coming on. (Maybe time to have it checked at the dealer?)

Interesting! Please let us know what the dealer says. My personal theory is that the blinking last bar is acting much like the reserve tank on a motorcycle( my Honda 600rr did almost exactly the same thing, and had a similar bar style indicator) so when the bar starts blinking you know you have another good so many miles, that so many being the million dollar question. I don't think it even has another light that will come on if the fuel gets any lower, and if it does I'm not brave enough to find out lol. As soon as I see it start to blink, I pull in a gas station on average I'm filling up about what you said 6.5 gallons give or take. If our tank is 8.5 gallons then that leaves us 2 gallons if we only got 30mpg then that's 60 miles to go, one hell of an early warning if you ask me!!

just to clarify, I'm not trying to be funny when I asked that cause all I've seen too is the blinking bar.

Now on the list of icons next to the picture, 6th on the list under "turn signal indicator" is a "low fuel level warning" and my interpretation of that picture is a blinking last bar. Is the low fuel "light" somewhere else on this page 4?

In comparison to my other Toyota,mI have an 07 Yaris sedan and it doesn't have the low fuel light as well, the last bar just blinks...

I have the same fear, just a blinking last bar, and usually I stop and fill up with about 6.5 gallons, so I believe it comes on when you ahve about 2 gallons left...so even at 30mpg thats 60 miles...but I havent tried it. The CLOSEST I got to "E" was a fill-up for 8 gallons, so I still had 1/2 gallon and the blinking light had been on for about 45-50 miles, so I was afraid to go any farther, and NO other light indicator or WARNING came on...

Hmmmm.....maybe we don't have a yellow warning indicator (which is a gas pump) like in my other Toyotas.

I just did turned the key on to light up all the lights (when it runs through it's start-up checks) and didn't see one.

I thought I had solved the mystery BUT then sat in my wife's Corolla and did the same (and I KNOW where her yellow warning light is) but it's not one of the ones that comes on when it runs through the start-up check.

So my question to Toyota (Scion) is if something isn't broke, why did you have to go change it? (My other Toyota's not only flash the light but they have audible beeps when they come on.)

I agree for sure, the system is more like that of a motorcycle than a car. I don't think we have any such light, and I'm not willing to risk running out of gas to find out. I think a beeping sound like you referred to would be a great idea, it would be easy to not even notice it was flashing and then we would be in trouble, maybe this is why it starts flashing with so much fuel still left in the tank.

I'm curious as to what other Toyotas you have... and I'm wondering if the Japan-made ones don't have 'em but the USA-made ones do... like my Yaris and iQ are both Japan made and they don't have it while my sister's Corolla(manufactured in MS) and my dad's Sienna(manufactured in IN) have them
