Whenever in doubt I would just follow the manufacturers recommended intervals. They obviously know what their doing.
I wouldn't exactly use the factory recommendation. But instead use it just as a guide. Basically the harder you push your engine the sooner you should do the oil change
thanks guys!!! ill definitely take those into consideration!! now all i need to do is learn how to do the oil changes myself. lol
Because I use mine mainly for city driving, so a lot of stop start so on that note I'll be aiming for around 2500 miles.

It's easy. I have limited mechanical skills at first but since I started riding motorcycles a few years ago, I learned how to change the oil and filter on those (smaller motors). The same concept applies to car engines. Since then, I've been changing them myself (on my Smart Fortwo when I had it). I will be doing the same on the iQ but not until after 2 years or 24,000 miles. Remember, we get FREE maintenance!

FWIW, the dealer put a sticker on my windshield as a reminder to take it in at 5,000 miles.
I just got my first free oil change from the dealer last Sunday. I have 5200 miles on mine.

Wait, what? You got to 5,000 miles first? I only have about 2,600 on mine (that's because I have other vehicles I "ride"). ;)

Yea. I bought mine on Dec 02. And I am putting 120miles everyday from commuting to work.
That's 120 smiles everyday! Way to go! Just last year, Honda recognized a loyal Honda Accord owner for racking 1 million miles! He was (is) an insurance adjuster (I think) and his secret to making his car last that long is scheduled maintenance. Good practice!
In North America at least the dealer will service the car for you for the first two years or 25000 miles, so cost=0! If you look at the handbook the maintenance schedule calls for changing the oil every 10,000 miles, and you use a synthetic oil. This is "normal" in Europe/Japan, but culturally in America we like to change our oil every few thousand miles. Cars in Europe do fine on 10K oil changes and the IQ has been around for three years there, so i intend to stick with the manufacturers recommendation and change with a good synthetic every 10k miles. The money I save will be put towards the new rear sway bar :)
Toyota Is now saying (They changed this rating In the USA in 2010) they went from 5K miles to 10K miles for Synthetic Oil, This is what the USA, IQ requires.

I will change the first few Oil change's at 5K Miles, and then go to 10K.
I'm old school. I will still change my oil every 4,000 miles. (with synthetic)

yes surfcitylocal, your old, thanks for your honesty.ooops did i say that.
in Europe, we must change oil every 9500 miles (after the first service at 3000 miles), and we must paid even car is on warranty....
