Evaporator Core leak

I'll try to change the evaporator core, I have a huge leak and I went 3 A/C auto repair shops and the three of them conclude that the leak was from the evaporator core, the leak is so huge that in less than 10 minutes the system is already discharge, so im going to try and change it by myself with the help of the Toyota Manual.
They said is the core because when they insert pressure to the system you could hear (I too heard it) a hissing noise coming from the vents.

I've download the manual from here: 2008-2015 TOYOTA iQ Service Manual
after you downloaded it should look like this:
Font Midnight Circle Number Darkness

then click on "rm11t4e", and finally click on a web file called: "index2"
On the tab vehicle interior search: "air condition unit" in removal there's all the steps on the removal of the instrument panel

After a long day of work and with help of a friend we managed to take out the A/C assembly, the evaporator core that was on my iQ wasn't the correct one, the last owner managed to place another one and adapted, they broke a little of the assembly but I'll try to fix it with fiberglass, following the steps I found that its not necessary to remove the steering rack and the reinforcement bar, it's a little harder to get the pieces out but it's possible and I think that save a lot of work hours

Well 2 days of work and job all done, I went to te A/C store for a recharge and the system maintain pressure and it's working as it should! Now I'm just going to repair the AC unit that its broken all attached a pic but overall it was worth. If you're are doing the same job buy the o'rings and oil and change the connection o'rings just to be sure 😃

Glad to see you've completed the work!

I hope it doesn't fail again for the rest of the car's lifespan.

any idea what caused the failure? I hope this isn't a common issue with the IQ. Good job in completing the task. I got a headache just looking at your picture.

The main reason why failed was the expansion valve and there was a big leak on the old core, here in my country instead of buying the original part the mechanics try to fit another similar. So I don't think the original could failed that easily, with good maintenance it should last the car's life
so the expansion valve failure caused excessive pressure in the system which subsequently damaged the evaporator core? any idea what the symptoms are when the expansion valve failure? I'd bet it would be much cheaper and easier to replace the expansion valve. Thanks....
