The Toyota CVT transmission has had recent problems in the Rav4 and Prius For an extra $800 in the iQ price for the CVT transmission over the 6 speed manual, this transmission offers inherent problems. Another reason for Toyota/Scion to offer the 6 Speed Manual Transmission in the U.S. iQ. See URL's below:

Actually the CVT transmission pushes up the iQ cost $1301. This is derived from the UK iQ site and configuring the iQ3 with and without the CVT transmission. The CVT adds 1030 GBP but includes the 20% value tax in it so reducing it by 20% brings it to 826 GBP which at today's exchange rate of 1 GBP = 1.579 USD brings the 826 GBP to 1301 USD ($1301).

So that would make the iQ with CVT costing $15,965, actually cost $14,664 with the 6 speed manual.

kszabo, you'll have to do better if you want to show that the CVT "offers inherent problems". The first link just references a guy who had some trouble that was fixed under warranty. This doesn't show that the transmission "offers inherent problems". The next two links are to the same 6-year old thread in which the members take turns telling how much they love their CVTs--debunking the newsweek article.
