I am trying to replace the cables that control the air vents, & temperature, I cannot find any diagrams, I have removed the center console, I cannot locate how to get the cable's out
Okay, after digging I found where they connect to. I'm afraid they appear accessible after you remove the airconditioning unit. The instruction on how to disconnect them from the airconditioning unit are in the airconditioning unit disassembly instructions!

Are you confident you need to replace these cables? Precursor steps include evacuating the air conditioning freon, draining the coolant. I have no idea if there are shortcuts but it's a lot of work if there isn't!!!

Thank you jzchen , I was afraid of that, I cannot move the dials the cables are binding, and the control dials just jump teeth, could you send me the diagram? I really appreciate your help. I cannot locate a repair manual for IQ :-(
I forgot you already posted about the problem...

@maksym Didn't you convert to automatic climate control? I want to go help this member personally (maybe after this kind of hell week/son's finals week), but I'm not sure what is going on. He's got the interior dash disassembled trying to replace the wiring that seem to be cabling? Which per Toyota repair instructions requires massive disassembly including under the hood...

Mine is a manual a/c. I was taking the dashboard apart to install the interior lighting kit and a bunch of other things. I recall it comes apart fairly easy, but you do have to remove other panels that get in the way. The cable would spin if the back of the dial is not snapped all the way in. I guess it would be nice if can possibly see the pictures of where OP got stuck.

@motomatt I wasn't aware of those iQ manual sources... @BamZipPow Thanks for sharing with the community.

Maybe you can share the picture you sent me here? The site is pretty good at allowing uploads comparatively or you can just share the link like the one you sent me...

I'm sure I saw someone buy the automatic climate panel and just assumed the wiring behind is the same, but seems like not. Maybe it was @Painterman ? He is here and on Facebook....

I am trying to find how to replace the cables that control the temperature, & the direction of vents, I tore apart the interior & followed the cables to firewall, but I cannot figure out how to remove them?

That AC unit has to come out, or at least be lifted outwards per Toyota instructions. But if they are physical cables (vs electrical wires) and they are still attached I'm still wondering if they need to be replaced, or they just got dislodged? I'm tempted to look into the auto AC conversion at this point...

I mean the instructions on removing the AC unit make no mention of disconnecting them, probably why you see they go into the firewall. Then when I took a peek at the AC unit disassembly instructions the ends of the cables are there....

@maksym, Thank you for links
That was BamZipPow , but here is another link just in case - scroll down to see google drive links to the shop manual:

Unfortunately, I have not gone as far as to remove the heater control linkage on the other end. I don't think it goes through the firewall though - will check in the evening when I get back home to the car if I can spot anything in the engine bay.

I recall my Honda Accord had a cable going through the firewall to close off the heater loop valve, but I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for. Still, if IQ has it - it should be fairly easy to spot. Basically look for valves on the coolant pipes coming out on the engine side of the firewall.

Thanks to all of you for your help really appreciated, I am hoping I do not have remove A/C, I need to be able to replace the cables physical cables they have a lot of resistance. I can turn the dials but they skip ? I have taken them apart but I see no problems with the dials ?
Do they skip if you turn them with pliers or something (as opposed to the dials)? If they do, maybe one of your airway shutters/diverters (whatever they are called) got stuck on something?

Also, how did the problem start? Is it both dials / only one, was it broken when you got the car or it stopped working after you took the console apart for other reasons?

maksym, They do not skip if I just go with the cables,
So it's the button then? Either not snapped together all the way, snapped inappropriately (not engaging), or a some kind of a plastic tab/pin broken inside the knob? The used ones are fairly cheap on ebay.

Let us know how it goes. Hopefully, a new button is going to fix it.

Thank you for all the help i received from all of you.
Success :) I was able to replace the cables, a lot of work, I had to remove pretty much all the front cab interior parts.
To be able to remove the Cable the controls the direction of wear the vents go (feet, body, & defrost) I had to bend with big screw diver a big plastic part that was right against it. both controls no work very well.

The old cables had a lot of resistance which caused the controls to skip.
