18" rims on a Scion IQ?

Would it be possible for me to put 18" rims on the Scion IQ?

It appears that the standard wheels are 15" alloys. That might make 18's pretty tight. 17's could be possible, though.

I think you will be pushing it with 18s and they will likley rub some.

Why 18's anyways? It will really affect the performance and gas mileage on this little car. Do you plan on making engine improvements too? Just throwing rims on there will mess up a bunch of stuff.

If you really wanted to you can fit 18's there pretty easily. However you have to remember bigger wheels mean a bigger rolling mass. Your iQ will accelerate slower off the line and also take longer to stop due to the larger wheel. It will also throw off your speedometer by a lot since the speedometer is calibrated to get readings from a 15" wheel.

    Wink ?

The tire size profile will decrease as you change to a larger wheel assy

    Weight
A forged weighs much less than cast, so if stock is steel 15 and you install forged alloy your saving weight

    My dymag's are 19 x 12 17lbs
Forged magnesium center witha carbon fiber barrell ( rim)
the bolts are Ti that hold them together, the lug bolts are also to
Wheel cost 3200.00 each, set of 20 ti lug bolts 1200.00

I have a vw rabbit also with 15 forged ,195-50-15
    stock was 175-70-13

    Hope this help's

So I guess it's safe to say the Scion iQ on 18 inch wheels is doable, just a matter of getting the correct tire profile to clear the fenders??

30-35 series tires might be ideal, low enough profile but not too low.

Stock wheels on the IQ are 16" in the USA, 18" or 19" should work.

Mine had the 15" with hubcaps, so had them swapped out with the upgraded 16" alloy, one thing I noticed was on the front inside, there is a metal piece that could damage larger tires.. Just FYI...

I agree. I think 18's would work just fine. I think the ride would suffer as you would have to go to a 40 profile.

I wanted the factory alloys but they are not available. I was looking at adapters today to take it from a 4 x 100 to a 5 x 112. That will allow an 18 x 7 wheel with 215/40's as long as the offset is at least 50.

I don't understand why you want change for 5x112 like VW? you can find 4x100 18X7 for 215/40 easely...

18" fit... You can find info online about people who have already done it. If you are going to stick with the 4x100mm bolt pattern you can still find 18" rims that size, but your options are limited. The main thing to look at is the offset. I think the IQ has a 16" with a +45 offset. If you get a wider rim the offset is measured from the center. The stock wheel is about 5" wide while most aftermarket rims are at least 7" wide. So an aftermarket with a +40 offset would be ok... but it may reduce your turning radius (not sure)... Even with the lowering springs you should have plenty of room to avoid the wheels touching the fender. The only person that came close to touching (or touched) was the guy that put the air ride on his IQ, and that was intentional. He also has 18's

18 inch wheels with a 45 offset will work just fine. If you are running the stock springs you will have no rubbing issues. The wheel well on an iQ is enormous. 19's are not an issue either. If you are adding lowering springs then you will have to adjust for the loss of clearance. With most of the springs on the market for the iQ right now, 2 inches is the most you can drop it. This would present and issue with 19's but 18's will still clear just fine.

    Can you say 20's?

I run air suspension with 18x7.5 wheels and have no loss of turning radius on the iQ.

    And I ride LOW.

The selection of wheels with 4x100 is very limited. I searched for wheels 5x100 and 5x112. There was a much better selection in the 5x112. If Scion gets me the factory alloys, it will become a non-issue. I just don't think they are going to help me.
