Definitely agree it looks better without the plate. Not sure I would risk not having one if it was the law though....Police seem to pick up on no front plates pretty quick!
As much as the Scion IQ looks better without the front plate, here in Ontario, it's the law... I know too many people who've gotten tickets for not having their front plate on their bumper, so I'm not willing to risk it.
It's been tested and disproved. I think there is one that sort of works but off the top of my head I can't remember which one. As for the front plate, I will keep it off as long as I can without getting a warning from a police officer. I wonder if the dealer can even release a car without one though...
You're lucky! Think of it this way - at least you don't have to have one of our huge plastic English plates on the front and an even uglier yellow one on the back!
Got pulled over by DPS when I had no plate on the front of the Miata. HATED to mount the tag on the IQ. but decided it wasn't worth the risk. At least they are personalized plates...

Don't like the plate off to the side like that. Maybe if you had a custom front end. But with a OE front end you would have the big iQ in the center of the bumper.
Texas' brilliant legislators removed the punishment but still "require" the plate. So now the courts might not have proper jurisdiction. I went 5 years without one on my last car, never had a problem.
Well, I fell like a total moron but how do you put the front plate on? I just got my IQ a few weeks ago and just got my plates. The little plastic IQ plate cover on the front doesn't seem to come off and I don't want to break it. How exactly do you put the new plate on?
Like most parts on the iQ you have to grab and pull. There are two plastic tabs holding the iQ plaque on the front bumper. Simply grab and edge and start pulling. You may break one of the tabs but they are easy to replace. Once you have the plaque removed you will see two holes where you can screw your front plate on. Simple job.
I just got my plates transferred today, but once I got the IQ plate off, I found that the holes are not the same width as a Colorado plate, nor do I have the screws for the rack-mount style washers behind the holes. Anyone else have this problem?
I did notice indentations in the body that seem to line up with the license plate...is that where I need to drill, and just supply my own screws?
Those "indentations" that you saw are typical "drill here" points, hence their correspondence to the state plate. As mentioned above, you can get the screws at any auto parts store.
Thanks, guys! I installed it yesterday. You were definitely more help than the dealership - they gave me bolts (which had threads that didn't match the rack-mount style washers from the IQ plate), and told me to drill a hole in my plate! *facepalm*
No front plate on mine. In Cali it is required to have a face plate. Had my iQ for a year today, still have not gotten in trouble for it
