    Scion IQ Safety Specs

Does anyone know the safety specs for the new Scion IQ? I'd hope to see some innovative safety technology.

Scion also wants to highlight the car’s safety features, with standard abs, vehicle stability control, traction control and 10 airbags – including a world’s first rear window curtain airbag.

Those safety features especially the rear window air bag seem really innovative to me. Scion has really covered themselves with those safety specs for the IQ.

So did Scion sacrifice features for safety? Seems to be a ton of air bags in this car, and some of the other features were dialed back a bit - fog lights, big dvd screen, manual transmission. I imagine all those airbags and the system that runs it is not cheap.

Even though it's not cheap, safety is not something that you'd skimp on... The consequences of cutting back on safety features would be detrimental to the brand if anything happened... With all those safety features, air bags and such, the Scion IQ looks very well-equipped safety wise to me.

I don't think there was a sacrifice in this case. Just have a look next time you are driving at a smart car and then some of the big trucks that are out there. Imagine if a big truck hit one of those smart cars (roughly the same size of the iQ) - it would not be pretty! Thankfully Scion is going above and beyond to keep us safe with all those airbags to keep us safe in case anything bad happens.

Small cars always scare me for their safety, considering the amount of larger trucks out there a disaster is waiting to happen. Glad to see Scion putting lots of money into the safety systems.

My thoughts exactly - with the amount of transports and SUvs on the roads and highways, the little cars need to be protected. I've noticed an increasing number of people who don't check blind spots - so a little IQ wouldn't be difficult to miss. I don't think that safety is something that Scion would skimp on for this car...

Not sure if anyone here forgot or doesn't know, but Hyundai did sacrifice on the IQ suspension.

Instead of a rear independent suspension, they have a torsion beam setup. Torsion beam suspensions are cheap and i actually feel better that they cut back on that component of the car rather then anything else. So i can bet the rear suspension has been cut back to move costs towards safety.
