    Aftermarket HU question

For those of you that have installed a new head unit, does the power still work on the usb port? I dont care about the function to play audio from the usb, just specifically the power feature.. I.E. to charge my cellphone. I know i could use the cig lighter but this is less cluttersome option..

I'd really like to know this, too. I'd like to plan ahead.

I don't think anyone on this board has gone non-OEM HU.

I had my HU replaced with a JVC KW-NT800HDT GPS Nav HU. My installer did tell me that the USB port would lose functionality upon replacing the OEM HU. The USB port utilized some proprietary connection/wiring. However, the JVC unit comes with a rear USB cable that my installer, with the use of a USB extension cable, was able to run all the way out to the center console USB port. He removed the USB port and modified it attaching the new USB cable to it. The USB port is now fully functional with the JVC HU and you'd be hard pressed to notice that a mod was done. There is one drawback though, the audio jack next to the USB is no longer functional. Luckily for me, I never really used it. Hope this helps.
