we want a 6-speed manual scion IQ in america!

damn it! the IQ-RS cannot arrive soon enough!

please please please for the love of god. bring us the 6-speed.

the 1.3 will suffice for now. a 1.6 liter engine will fit i have read on the wiki page. wouldn't that be nice?

who would be into this as an factory option or would consider a custom retro-fit?

I'm all for a six speed. Opens up the option of adding a turbo to the iQ.
I'm a Haole. I live on the Mainland but my heart is in Hawaii.

Surf City is where I live, you can call me TAZ.

I would have loved a manual but my wife wouldn't. The IQ is her car.

Yes, a 6-speed manual transmission would be great, but unfortunately the market for manual transmissions in North America is likely to be small for Toyota to consider selling them here.

    this is speculation.

i disagree. drivers want manual trannys.

people who dont care about direct feel, throttle response, or performance will be perfectly happy in their automatic cars.

all im saying is options would be nice. like the other cars out there. in america.

Options are always nice, but Toyota (like all of the car folks) is first and foremost a business, with the chief aim of making money. While there may be a small minority of car owners of any model who are "driving enthusiasts", the vast majority of the pool are people who look at an automobile as a means of transportation. They want utility, not the ability to power their vehicle through turns while driving it like its stolen.

When I was a young tad, I owned a "sporty" manual transmission car, an Opel GT. Resembling nothing so much as a miniature Corvette, it was a chick magnet and rather fun to drive. However, after the first three years of ownership, I came home from RVN with a damaged and stapled tendon in my left leg, and manual transmissions no longer had the appeal that they once had.

Even if I had survived intact, the prospect of commuting in stop and go traffic to a job downtown each and every day rapidly took the shine off of the standard transmission car, cute or not. From there, I went for automatics and haven't looked back since.

For every "driving enthusiast", there are going to be ten or more folks who want an appliance that gets them around with the minimum amount of effort and stress. Automatic transmission vehicles meet that requirement very well, and they continue to outsell standards here in the United States by a huge margin. Toyota is just knowing their primary market, that's all...

I had a six speed Jealous?
when I go to my dealer I take the new spec for IQ2013 : no six speed, only multidrive for IQ 100 VVTi; for a five speed, you must buy a 68VVTi...
and now only two model : IQ and IQ², so my IQ3 is a collector !!!

So is Toyota EVER going to release a manual transmission for the IQ in the USA?

If so, does anyone know what model year? I really want to buy one, but I don't want the silly automatic.

This sure would be a cool feature to add to the IQ. I think this combined with a supercharger would make the IQ amazing to drive. The power to weight ratio, combined with a more controllable transmission system would be cool, I guess that's why in Japan it's already been done, they are always on top of things.
