Thank you! Your further explanation and video helped greatly.

Do you know if this is a JDM standard part, or is it an accessory for the aftermarket?

It's very cool. I like it, but I'm not sure if I'd do the job. It sounds like it was more than you expected.

The main question would be this: Did you have to do any wiring beyond the rear view mirror, into the door and dash, or were all necessary connections already in the mirror?

Thanks for showing us all this mod.

The part is from an aftermarket company in Taiwan. It fits exactly into the stock location.

Wiring is required from the front running light to the mirror and from the dome light to the mirror. You will need to splice into the black and white wires of the dome light and the green (driver side) and pink (passenger) side for the running lights. All wires will be run through the existing rubber boot between the cabin and the door. You will also need to remove the mirror housing completely to run the wires into the housing.

I'be been out of town but have received several requests for more specific directions. I will post up what few pictures I have as soon as I can.

Here is a basic installation explanation of the mirror lights...

    Disconnect the positive batter cable.

    Remove the interior door panels.
    Remove the mirror housings.
Remove the lower interior kick panels.
    Remove the interior scuff plates.
Remove the sun visors and clips.
    Remove the dome light.
Remove the parking light socket in the engine compartment.
Loosen (do not remove) the A-pillars on both sides.

This is the wiring diagram for the side mirror lights I purchased on eBay.

Blue from mirror lights connects to the Green (Driver side), Pink (Passenger side) parking light wire in engine compartment.
Red from mirror lights connects to the White (Drivers side) Pink (Passenger side) turn signal wire behind door panel.
Black from mirror lights connects to any close Ground source.

White from mirror covers connects to the Black from dome light.
Black from mirror covers connects to the White from dome light.

Installation will require that you run wire from the dome light to the door panel and from the parking light socket to the door panel. Running the wires through the rubber boot can be tough.

If you have some wiring skills you can do this job in less than a day. If you don't have any wiring skills you may wish to hire someone or find a friend who can help you with it.

If you have any more specific questions please feel free to post them up!

I obtained a replacement at the dealer and now all is good.

They fit perfectly into the stock locations and I think they look great. It was a lot more work than I expected but worth the time and effort.

I added the painted mirror covers yesterday. I think it really compliments the iQ.
